Women's World Cup sets world record - in tweets

The FIFA Women’s World Cup was not just one of the year's top world sporting events - it may also go down as one of a world-record setter in terms of tweets. Micro-blogging site Twitter on Monday (Manila time) recorded 7,196 tweets per second after the WWC final; and 7,166 tweets per second after the Paraguay-Brazil game. "New Tweets per second records! End of the #WWC final: 7196 TPS. And today's end to the Paraguay/Brazil game is now 2nd with 7166 TPS," it said. Tech site Mashable, which noted the final game was between the United States and Japan, said the previous record was set on New Year's Day in Japan, with 6,939 tweets per second. Mashable also noted the tweets sent during the Women’s World Cup Final "far outpaced" those sent at the Men’s World Cup 2010 Final. "Some 3,283 tweets were sent per second then, when Japan beat Denmark in the final match. It’s certainly curious that all of these top-tweeting moments occurred around Japan," it noted. It added that in February, Twitter users managed to send 4,064 tweets per second --OMG, GMA News
