Woman found dead, burned inside Pasig motel

A 20-year-old woman was found dead and burned inside a motel room in Pasig City on Tuesday afternoon, police said. Pasig City police chief Senior Superintendent Jesse Cardona said the incident occurred at about 2 p.m. at a room of the Country Lodge Motel. "Hindi pa completely sunog ang katawan ng babae, but yung mukha beyond recognition. But nakita natin meron ding bloodstains sa paligid. So ang presumption natin pinatay bago gusto sunugin para di makilala," Cardona said in an interview on dzBB radio. Cardona identified the victim through an ID card as Regine Fernandez, a native of Cebu City and an employee of the Cebu Waterfront Hotel. Police immediately arrested the suspect, identified as Raymond Camarse, 46, a resident of Quezon City. A separate report on GMA News' "24 Oras" said Camarse was 49 years old.

Cardona said police managed to catch up with Camarse shortly after he tried to flee from the hotel. The official, however, could not give other details of the killing. "Hindi natin malaman kung may pagtatalo, bakit biglang ganoon ang nangyari," he said when asked if the victim and the suspect quarreled before the incident. The "24 Oras" report said Fernandez was stabbed and then burned. It added that motel employees called village watchmen after seeing Camarse leave his room, from where smoke was reportedly coming out. "Yung kwarto sunog mismo, mabuti hindi masyadong sunog ang katawan," Cardona said. — KBK, GMA News
