Amanda Coling open to apology but does not say for what nor from whom

Amanda Coling, the model implicated in an alleged rape some members of the men’s national football team supposedly committed, said Tuesday through her lawyer that she is “open to accepting apology from the concerned parties." But Coling’s statement, issued by Attorney Apollo Sangalang on his Facebook page, did not identify those parties nor did he define the offense committed against his client. Sangalang said his client “never specifically named, identified, or blamed anyone as liable or responsible, despite attempts by certain entities to put words into her mouth." Coling alleged that the “incident" involving her and the unidentified parties supposedly happened last June 2, but whatever it was that happened, Coling “ would rather forget than remember." The model claims “she consulted with a militant women's organization and then with a public attorney" but Sangalang said those consultations “only strengthened her resolve to remain silent." Coling’s statement mentions the football team by their monicker, the Azkals, but she did so only to say that “she has no axe to grind against the Azkals as a team. In fact, she openly supports Team Azkals and continues to wish them great success and glory in their upcoming games." Allegations spread from gossip Word of the alleged rape involving four members of the men’s national football team first broke out through at least two blogs. One, Pinoygossipboy, plainly says it is a venue for gossip while the other is a hodgepodge of sorts, mostly celebrity buzz. Pinoygossipboy or PGB does not identify its author or authors while fashionpulis carries the gmail of a Michael Sy Lim. In a July 10 post, PGB said, “Pinoy Gossip Boy neither confirms nor denies the veracity of the above-written information. Furthermore, Pinoy Gossip Boy denies drawing any conclusion based on the above information. Pinoy Gossip Boy publishes the raw information without any affirmation as to its authenticity." PGB published the information it had anyway. The information PGB refers to is a screengrab image of a purported Facebook conversation between German football coach Paul Weiler and a member of the football team. In an interview with GMA News Online via Facebook chat and in post on a blog that he apparently has control of, Paul Weiler said the screengrab came from him. Weiler said he will go to the police in Germany to inform them of what he says he knows. "I will give my knowledge to German police," he said. Weiler maintains he is still a consultant of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF). He emailed soft copies of two documents to GMA News Online. One bears the name and signature of Jose Mari Martinez as PFF president and identifies Weiler as a “European consultant." The other bears the letterhead of PFF national team "management office." No formal association GMA News Online asked the PFF to verify the documents and their contents. PFF General Secretary Ramon Manuel said via text message that he wrote the German Football Association a letter informing them that Weiler has no formal association with the PFF. Weiler confirmed that he has been in touch with the editor of a sports blog, Eric Dimzon, saying it was Dimzon who contacted him first via email. Dimzon’s blog has at least four posts about the accusations against the Azkals. In one post, he narrates an account of the alleged rape. In another post, Dimzon shared contents of an email he supposedly received from Weiler. This post alleged that Weiler learned about the alleged incident from Azkals coach Michael Weiss. In another post, Dimzon sent a message to the woman who was allegedly raped. He mentioned the women’s party-list group Gabriela and Commission on Human Rights chairperson Etta Rosales. In this open letter to the woman, Dimzon indicated that Gabriela emailed him on June 13 and that the email was about “assistance." Dimzon did not identify the woman by name, and referred to her only as “Miss X." But on the wall of his Facebook account, the name of a female was mentioned in his conversation with one of his Facebook friends. Azkals team manager Dan Palami repeatedly denied the allegations in interviews with GMA News. He also said Weiler was not a consultant of the national team. Palami said he did meet Weiler when the Azkals were in Germany for training. He added that Weiler introduced himself as a consultant and applied for the position with the national team. Palami said he rejected the offer because there was no such position available. — VS, GMA News
