Weather: Pre-SONA weekend likely to remain sunny, hot

State weather forecasters on Wednesday said they expect sunny weather during the weekend before President Benigno Aquino III's State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 25. Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecaster Elvie Enriquez said two low-pressure areas (LPAs) or potential cyclones that may bring rain to the country are still too far away. "Ganito pa rin panahong ating inaasahan [hanggang weekend], napakalayo pa ng LPA. Ang prevailing na weather, ang monsoon trough at apektado nila ang lalawigan sa Mindanao... the rest of the country okay ang panahon," Enriquez said in an interview on dzBB radio. She said that as of Wednesday morning, the two LPAs – which may be named "Juaning" and "Kabayan" if they become cyclones in Philippine territory – are more than 1,000 km outside Philippine territory. Earlier, PAGASA's Joel Jesusa said their models indicate possible rain on Monday. On the other hand, PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said a monsoon trough is affecting Eastern Mindanao and may bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. "The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening," it said. — LBG, GMA News
