Deron Williams signs with Turkish team Besiktas


New Jersey Nets point guard Deron Williams has confirmed his signing with Turkish Club Besiktas. Williams accepted a one-year $5 million deal with the Turkish club according to the ESPN website. The 2-time NBA All Star confirmed the deal by tweeting a photo of his signature on the contract that was signed July 15, 2011. "Just made it official, headed to Turkey ...signed with Beşiktaş & @BJK_Basketbol," said Williams The 2005 third round pick was not the first NBA player to play for the Besiktas. In 2010, former NBA MVP Allen Iverson signed with the ball club for a two-year, $4 million deal. Iverson has yet to finish his contract due to a calf injury. Williams will now join New Jersey Nets teammate Sasha Vujacic in Turkey. Vujacic has signed with Anadolu Efes, another professional basketball team that has produced NBA players like Hedo Turkoglu and Mehmet Okur. -- RAF/OMG, GMA News
