3 PHL bets clinch berths in main draw of US Girls Amateur

Jayvie Agojo, Cyna Marie Rodriguez and Chihiro Ikeda—three of the country’s best amateurs to date—are all heading to the US Girls Amateur Championship after doing well in the qualifying tournaments held in separate venues in the US. Agojo scored an even 72 to top the sectional qualifying event while Rodriguez had a 74 to place third, also good a slot, played at the Green Gables Country Club in Denver, Colorado. The University of Pepperdine graduate Agojo eagled the par-5 No. 15 and drained clutch pars in the last three holes at the par-71 to atone for her pair of three-putt bogeys in the early holes. Sunshine Baraquiel, however, failed to advance with a 77, losing the fifth and last seat to Melissa Martin in a playoff. Ikeda, meanwhile, gained a shot at the US Girls title after finishing second to Haley Stephens with a 73 at the Country Club of York in Pennsylvania. Agojo, Rodriguez and Ikeda, thus, joined teammate Sarah Ababa, who earlier gained a berth in the annual event on August 8 to 14 at the Rhode Island Country Club in New York. – Adrian Flores/JVP, GMA News
