Weather: Floods, landslides loom over Bicol, east Visayas

Flash floods and landslides loom over Bicol and Eastern Visayas due to an inter-tropical convergence zone affecting Visayas and Mindanao, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Thursday. PAGASA also said thunderstorms and rainshowers may be expected over Dau town in Pampanga province in Central Luzon. "Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy with widespread rains over Bicol region and Eastern Visayas which may trigger flashfloods and landslides," PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. bulletin. It added the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the Southwest will prevail over Northern Luzon and its coastal waters will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the Southwest to West with slight to moderate seas. Gale warning PAGASA also said the surge of southwesterly surface windflow has weakened, but warned fishing boats and small vessels against moderate to rough seas. "Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are alerted against moderate to rough seas," it said. Rainshowers over Pampanga PAGASA, in a message on its Twitter account, also said rainshowers and thunderstorms are possible over Dau in Pampanga. "Expect occurence of thunderstorms/rainshowers over Dau, Pampanga," it said. — KBK, GMA News
