Classes from kinder to high school in QC suspended July 25

The Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Friday that classes in kinder, elementary and secondary levels in Quezon City are suspended on Monday, July 25. The suspension covers both private and public schools. DepEd communications head Kenneth Tirado said the Education Department decided to suspend classes due to the expected heavy traffic due to President Benigno Aquino III's State of the Nation Address (SONA). For her part, DepEd Metro Manila head Elena Ruiz said this was the decision made by the DepEd division superintendent, after meeting with the Office of the Mayor and Quezon City police. "Napagpasiyahan nila na i-suspend ang klase sa lahat ng antas sa public at private sa Quezon City sa Monday (They decided to suspend classes up to high school in public and private schools in Quezon City on Monday)," Ruiz said in an interview on dzBB radio. Asked what the factors for the suspension of classes were, Ruiz said: "Traffic, rally at security ng mga bata (Pupils have to contend with traffic, rallies and security concerns)." The SONA is held inside the Batasan Pambansa compound in Quezon City. Part of the northbound lane of Commonwealth Avenue will be closed to traffic on that day. — RSJ, GMA News
