UP Diliman Police arrest two Dugo-Dugo gang members

University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman Police arrested two suspected members of a con gang who tried to steal the digital single-lens reflex camera of a UP Visual Communications major Thursday evening, according to the Philippine Collegian. Apprehended were Ralph Ryan Wong and Arturo Alejandre. Their victim was Angelica Descallar. Isabella Patricia Borlaza, in her article published in the online edition of Kule of the Philippine Collegian, said Espino “was at the College of Law when he saw three men walking with Descallar, who was wearing her camera around her neck. Espino said his suspicions were aroused when he overheard one of the suspects “introduce himself to Descallar as a barangay kagawad." The security officer followed the men and their victim to the International Center, approached them and began questioning the suspects, who, sensing danger, fled. Espino then alerted the Special Services Brigade and a manhunt ensued. Wong and Alejandre were later caught. UPDP disclosed that Alejandre is a sampaguita vendor and identified their leader as a certain Dodong Cervantes. Upon questioning, Wong said he is a high school dropout and a member of the Dugo-Dugo gang since last year. UPDP Desk Officer Jolly Dimaala said the con gang, whose modus operandi is labeled dugo-dugo, fools their victim into trusting them with their valuables. “Kunwari may sinaktan, may kagawad, [at iiwanan] ‘yung gamit," Dimaala said “Wag kaagad maniniwala, huwag agad mag-entertain kung [may lumapit] na hindi kakilala. Kung may mga lumapit na ganoon ang istilo, huwag mag-atubiling lumapit sa guwardiya, o tumawag sa UP Police," Dimaala advised. — With Juvylle Almazon/KT/ELR/VS, GMA News
