Oslo bombing triggers online scams

The Oslo bombing that killed at least 10 people has triggered a new online scam on social networking site Facebook. Computer security firm Sophos said the scam started within hours after the bombing, offering a supposed "video" of the blast. "Users tempted to click on the scam link will be redirected offsite to a page that appears to be on Facebook with a fake YouTube video player. The screen is grayed out until you agree to take survey to prove you are 18 years of age and click 'Jaa,'" Sophos Canada senior security adviser Chester Wisniewski said in a blog post Saturday. He said users may be tempted to click on the message, which claims a "Security Camera Captures Blast!" Wisniewski said the link leads to a survey, which when filled up will lead to an IQ test where prospective victims are asked to enter their mobile phone number. The victims will be charged two dollars per trivia question SMS'd to them four times per week. "Keep your eye on the ball and expect these types of scams when tragedies are in the news," Wisniewski advised. —LBG, GMA News
