DFA: No Pinoys initially reported hurt in Oslo bomb, gun attacks

No Filipino was initially reported injured in a bomb blast and shooting spree in Oslo, Norway, the Department of Foreign Affairs said Saturday. Government-run dzRB radio quoted DFA spokesman Raul Hernandez as saying the Philippine Embassy in Oslo continues to monitor the situation there following the incidents. Last Friday, a gunman dressed in police uniform opened fire at a youth summer camp on an island there, killing at least 80 youths. Hours earlier, a bomb killed seven in the government district in the capital Oslo. In a statement, Hernandez said there are some 16,000 Filipinos in Norway. A Filipina living in Norway voiced disbelief such "bizarre" incident could happen in a peace-loving country. "The whole country is in shock because nobody thought this kind of thing would happen here. Sobrang bizarre talaga... One thing is for sure: safe, little Norway has lost its innocence and will never be the same after the incident," Michelle Rosero Madsen told GMA News Online on Saturday in a Facebook message. Michelle is married to a Norwegian. Aside from being a host to thousands of Filipinos, Norway also plays a key role in the peace process between the Philippine government and the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army-National Democratic Front. — with a report by Earl Victor Rosero/LBG, GMA News
