412 Negros provincial jail inmates moved to new facility

At least 412 inmates of the Negros provincial jail in Bacolod City have been transferred to the newly built P100-million Negros Occidental facility in Bago City. Some 341 of the inmates were transferred at dawn Friday, following an initial batch of 71 inmates, news site Visayan Daily Star reported Saturday. Negros Occidental District Jail warden Superintendent Felixberto Jagorin Jr. said the Bago jail is more spacious, having a capacity for about 480 inmates, according to the report. The report quoted Jagorin as saying that the inmates are to be searched to make sure violence does not break out at the new facility. Personnel from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Negros Occidental and Iloilo, the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection and barangay tanods helped in the transfer, the report said. — JE, GMA News
