Weather: Flash floods, landslides threaten VisMin

Flash floods and landslides threaten parts of Visayas and Mindanao as a potential cyclone moved closer to Eastern Samar Saturday afternoon, the state weather bureau said. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the potential cyclone — a low-pressure area (LPA) — was estimated at 230 km east of Borongan, Eastern Samar, as of 2 p.m. The LPA was embedded along the Intertropical Convergence Zone affecting Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao, PAGASA added. “Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms becoming cloudy," PAGASA said. The LPA may be codenamed “Juaning" should it become a cyclone while inside Philippine territory. PAGASA said the rest of the country will have “partly cloudy to at times cloudy" skies, with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms mostly in the afternoon or evening. It added “light to moderate" winds blowing from the southeast will prevail over Northern and Central Luzon, and coming from the southwest to west over the rest of the country. Coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be “slight to moderate," PAGASA said. — JE, GMA News
