Rep. Gloria Arroyo rushed to hospital

(Updated 10:01 p.m.) Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was rushed to hospital Monday night, according to a report on GMA News' "24 Oras" quoting her spokesperson Maite Defensor. The report said Arroyo, now Pampanga congresswoman, was brought to St Luke's Medical Center in Taguig City for a still unknown reason. Arroyo attended the opening session of Congress earlier in the day but skipped President Benigno Aquino III's State of the Nation Address (SONA) in the afternoon. She refused to be interviewed by the media.

The former President was last rushed to hospital on June 16 after suffering from "cervical radiculopathy" or "pinched nerve" caused by a compressed nerve root on her neck. She had to wear a neck brace for several days after that. Just recently, Arroyo's name has been dragged into several controversies, particularly the alleged misuse of funds of the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) during her administration, and the alleged vote-rigging during the 2004 and 2007 elections. She was slapped with three plunder cases with the Department of Justice. "Like I said it's nothing new," said Arroyo's son, Camarines Sur Rep. Diosdado "Dato" Arroyo, in an interview earlier in the day, referring to the accusations against his mother. "Nakakatawa nga hanggang ngayon yung dating administrasyon pa rin ang nasa news. Siguro diyan natin makikita yung trabahong ginagawang trabaho ng bagong administrasyon," he added.— KBK, GMA News
