Weather: 'Juaning' now a storm, four areas under Signal No. 2


The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said four areas were placed under Storm Signal No. 2 as tropical cyclone "Juaning" intensified into a storm on Tuesday morning, threatening the Quezon-Aurora area in Luzon. In an 8:45 a.m. advisory, PAGASA said "Juaning" was estimated at 90 kilometers (km) north-northeast of Virac, Catanduanes or at 150 km east-northeast of Daet, Camarines Norte as of 5:00 a.m. PAGASA said "Juaning" packed maximum winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, and was moving west-northwest at 19 kph. "Juaning" was forecast to be in the vicinity of Dagupan City Wednesday morning; and 260 km west-northwest of Laoag City Thursday morning. The areas under Storm Signal 2 are:

  • Camarines Norte, and
  • Camarines Sur. Under Signal No. 1 are:

  • Polillo Island
  • Sorsogon PAGASA warned residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under storm signals against possible flashfloods and landslides. It reminded those living in coastal areas to be alert against big waves or storm surges generated by "Juaning." It also said "Juaning" will continue to bring rains over Central and Southern Luzon and of Visayas. - VVP, GMA News
