Magnitude-4.9 quake hits Davao area


A magnitude-4.9 quake hit the Davao area in Mindanao Tuesday afternoon, hours after a magnitude-5.9 quake hit the Zambales area in Luzon. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), however, said no damage or aftershock was expected from the afternoon quake. Phivolcs said the quake was recorded at 4:02 p.m. and was tectonic in origin. It said the epicenter was 56 km northeast of Baganga, Davao Oriental. The quake was felt at Intensity III in Davao City, it added. The United States Geological Survey initially measured the quake at magnitude 5.1. — KBK, GMA News
