DSWD extends over P2-M aid to storm-hit CamSur, Catanduanes


The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Tuesday extended P2,085,828 in relief assistance to Camarines Sur and Catanduanes, provinces affected by tropical storm "Juaning" (international name: Nock-Ten). DSWD Secretary Corazon Soliman said the aid included:

  • 1,000 sacks of rice;
  • 500 blankets;
  • 600 plastic matsm and
  • 2,000 packs of clothing items for Camarines Sur worth P1,748,328. “I have talked this morning to Governor Luis Raymund Villafuerte to personally determine the immediate needs of the affected families in his province," Soliman said in a news release. Rice for Catanduanes residents Meanwhile, the DSWD Region V released some 250 sacks of rice worth P337,500 to the Catanduanes provincial government for distribution to affected families. According to the DSWD, four villages in Catanduanes had been flooded due to heavy rain, including Capilihan, San Vicente, Gogon and Poblacion. In Albay, evacuation centers were opened to accommodate some 4,000 families evacuated from coastal barangays. In Bulan, Sorsogon, some 152 families with 682 persons are now staying in evacuation centers located in Bulan South and Central Schools. At least eight families are staying in the Aquino Barangay Hall while 43 families in Putiao and Castilla villages in Sorsogon are staying at the village's day care centers. “Our DSWD Regional Office V is closely working with the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils at the regional and provincial levels for any update and necessary augmentation support to affected local government units," Soliman said. - VVP, GMA News
