The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has established a 24/7 task force for quick response and calamity preparedness in Eastern Visayas. Eastern Visayas regional director Rolando Asis said the Equipment Emergency Task Force will be based in Palo, Leyte. “We have five regular area shops and nine sub-shops strategically located in Eastern Visayas. Each area shop has also its own Equipment Task Force ready as the need arises and during emergency situations," said DPWH Regional Equipment Services (RES) engineer Romy Gumban. Asis said the task force personnel are equipped with raincoats, boots, flashlights, hard caps, and various hand tools. Its equipment include a prime mover with trailer, two service vehicles, one stake truck, six dump trucks, one shop truck, two forklifts, two road graders, one hydraulic excavator, one truck-mounted crane and one payloader. The DPWH RES for Region 8’s major activities include preventive maintenance of DPWH vehicles and equipment; interim or mechanical repairs of equipment/vehicles; and building and yard maintenance and disposal of unserviceable equipment. - VVP, GMA News
