LTFRB to inspect facilities of bus firm in Skyway tragedy

Transportation officials have set an inspection of the facilities of a bus firm whose unit fell off the Skyway Tuesday that resulted in the deaths of the driver and two of the five passengers. Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board chairman Nelson Laluces said this is aside from the 30-day suspension order on the firm for the tragedy. "Ngayong umaga ise-serve ang suspension order, preventive suspension for 30 days (On Wednesday morning we will serve the suspension order. It is a preventive suspension for 30 days)," Laluces said in an interview on dzBB radio. He added the hearing for the firm over its alleged violation of franchise has been scheduled on August 4. When asked if they expect to serve the suspension order before noon Wednesday, Laluces said: "Oo, at titignan ang garahe (yes, and we will inspect the firm's garage)." At least three people, including the bus driver, were killed after one of the firm's buses fell off the Skyway and landed on the service road below. However, Laluces said not all units of the firm are covered by the 30-day preventive suspension. He indicated "Dimple Star" has many franchises. "Pinapakuha ko lahat na record pero marami ang buses nito, may ibang biyahe sa probinsya (I am still collating our records but an initial check showed the bus firm has many franchises because it plies many routes to the provinces)," he said. Laluces also said they are checking their records on the firm, admitting their records are not computerized. — RSJ, GMA News
