'Juaning' moves faster as it exits PHL

Tropical Storm Juaning (Nock-Ten) sustained its 85 to 100 kilometer-per-hour winds and picked up speed as it began to move away from Luzon. State weather forecasters spotted the center of the storm at 110 kilometers southwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. “Juaning" will be outside the country’s meteorological jurisdiction by Thursday morning, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). PAGASA kept Storm Signal No. 2 over the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, Kalinga, Mt. Province, Ifugao, La Union, Benguet, and Nueva Vizcaya. Eleven other Luzon provinces remained under Storm Signal No. 1. “Residents in low lying and mountainous areas under signals… are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone," PAGASA said. The weather bureau also warned that the storm “will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon and will bring widespread rains which may trigger flashfloods and landslides" in the Western Visayas and parts of Luzon. PAGASA said it will issue its next storm bulletin Thursday at 5 a.m. – Earl Victor Rosero, GMA News
