MRT-3 operations stalled due to power loss

MRT-3 operations were stalled Thursday night due to a blackout, an MRT-3 official told GMA News Online. Ricky Arceo, officer-in-charge of the MRT-3 control center, said the power loss at around 9:50 p.m. stemmed from the Manila Electric Company substations in Balintawak and Diliman. He said the incident cut off power from the North EDSA station, where the MRT-3 control center is located. "Wala kaming control sa lahat ng train. 'Di na mahanap [ang ibang train] sa monitoring system," Arceo said, explaining the shutdown of operations in other stations. The cancelled train rides were supposed to be the last trip for the MRT-3 line. Arceo said various MRT-3 stations have already given refunds to affected customers. Reports from Youscoopers saying they were stuck in various stations first came at around 10:15 p.m. Other reports said passengers at the Taft terminal station were asked to step off the train at around 10:30 p.m. because of a power outage at the control center. Another passenger, Charls Singson (@supercharls), informed GMA News through a tweet that passengers in the Buendia station were stuck in the train for over 45 minutes.
