Carjackers strike anew, shoot driver in QC

Carjackers struck anew in Quezon City early Friday, taking a sport utility vehicle and shooting the driver when he tried to put up a fight. Police are now trying to find leads on the carjackers, who fled with a black Mitsubishi Montero SUV, radio dzBB's Allan Gatus reported. The report said the incident occurred shortly after 6 a.m., near the house of the vehicle's owner along Geronimo Drive, near the corner of Tandang Sora and Mindanao Avenue. Witnesses said the driver, initially identified as Marlon, was shot at least six times when he tried to put up a fight.

An initial investigation showed two to three armed men approached Marlon and forcibly boarded the SUV. Marlon was cleaning the vehicle at the time the armed men struck, the report said. "Lumaban ang driver, anim ang tama (He tried to fight back and was shot six times)," said a witness. It was the latest violent carjacking since June 15, when men shot and ran over a 34-year-old woman after taking off in her car in Kamuning, Quezon City. Killed in that incident was Teresa Teaño, whose red Hyundai Accent was taken by the armed men. — LBG, GMA News
