DPWH: Commonwealth Ave extension opening soon

The R-7 Don Mariano Marcos Avenue (Commonwealth Avenue) road extension project in Quezon City is "substantially completed" and will be opened to traffic soon, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said. DPWH Urban Road Projects Office (URPO) Director Mariano Alquiza said concrete paving of the six-lane, 500-meter stretch of road is already completed. Only the pavement markings and electrical panel posts have to be installed. DPWH Secretary Rogelio Singson said the new road will address traffic congestion in that area of Quezon City. A news release on the DPWH website said the P65.898-million project connects Don Mariano Marcos Avenue with Quirino Highway in Novaliches, Quezon City. The project also includes the installation of reinforced concrete pipe culvert, concrete manhole and curb inlet manhole as drainage provision. The safety features of the new highway include:

  • street lightings using galvanized pole with double luminaire lamp
  • regulatory and warning road signs
  • reflectorized thermoplastic pavement markings. Flyover Meanwhile, the DPWH is pursuing the completion of a flyover crossing Commonwealth Avenue, connecting Tandang Sora and Luzon Avenue in Quezon City. The 522-lineal meter flyover project is part of the C-5 Road Extension Project connecting road components from South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to North Luzon Expressway (NLEX). The construction of the flyover is part of the widening of Tandang Sora Avenue and Luzon Avenue. When completed, it will lessen travel time and ensure smooth flow of traffic coming from Katipunan Road (C-5) going to NLEX via Congressional Avenue and Mindanao Avenue. It will reduce the density of motorists from other major national roads coming from SLEX bound to NLEX, the DPWH added. - VVP, GMA News
