Bagong hepe ng Ombudsman dapat suportahan, ayon kay Cayetano

MANILA – Nanawagan si Senate Minority Leader Sen Alan Peter Cayetano na suportahan ang bagong pinuno ng Ombudsman na si retired Supreme Court justice Conchita Carpio-Morales para magtagumpay sa paghahabol sa mga tiwaliang opisyal ng pamahalaan. Ayon sa senador, kailangan ni Morales ang lahat ng suporta dahil nahaharap ito sa matinding pagsubok bunga ng mga malalaking kaso na hahawakan partikular ang mga kinasasangkutan ni dating pangulong Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. “I hope that she will have the funds, the power and the opportunity to resolve the cases. I hope everyone will give her the support that she needs," pahayag ni Cayetano. Umaasa ang mambabatas na hindi “hilaw" ang mga kasong isasampa laban sa mga tiwaling opisyal para maipakita ng administrasyon ni Pangulong Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III na seryoso ito sa kampanya laban sa katiwalian. Pinuna ni Cayetano na maraming kaso na isinampa ang nakaraang liderato ng Ombudsman sa Sandiganbayan ang nabasura dahil sa mahinang ebidensiya o kaya naman ay dulot ng teknikalidad. “The President’s success or failure in the anti-corruption campaign will now depend on Ombudsman Morales," ayon sa senador. “The difference should be evident – from the slow investigation of before to a more aggressive stance of resolving these corruption cases now." Nitong Miyerkules, iginiit ni House Minority Leader Rep Edcel Lagman, na dapat maging indepedyente ang Ombudsman mula sa impluwensiya ng Malacanang. Binatikos ng kongresista ang pahayag ni Pangulong Aquino na dapat ipagpatuloy ni Morales ang misyon ng Truth Commission na hindi nakalusot sa Korte Suprema. “The President is virtually giving the new Ombudsman marching orders to prioritize the prosecution of his immediate predecessor (Arroyo)," puna ni Lagman. “These actuations demean and politicize the Office of the Ombudsman, an independent constitutional body, which should be allowed to voluntarily assume jurisdiction, freely conduct its own investigations and judiciously resolve complaints," dagdag pa niya. - GMA News
