PHL Olympian and swimming coach Lozada, 72

Philippine swimming lost one of its legendary coaches after Pepito "Pete" Lozada died due to a lingering illness. He was 72. Lozada competed in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and won a medal in the 1962 Jakarta Asian Games before he became a successful swimming coach. "We are sad to announce the passing of one of the Philippines' top swimmers and coaches. He spent his life living his passion and was the coach behind some of the most successful swimmers in the country," Philippine Aquatics Sports Association (PASA) president Mark Joseph said in a text message. After his swimming career, he formed a swimming school with his brother Bert which remains in existence after 50 years. They helped train several big names in the world of Philippine swimming. Lozada mentored some of the best swimmers in the country in Joseph, Ral Rosario, Christine Jacob and Eric Buhain. Recently, his leg was amputated due to diabetes but that didn't stop Lozada from swimming and he even participated in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most swimmers joining a 24-hour marathon. - Reuben Terrado/JVP, GMA News
