Storm 'Kabayan' indirectly affects PHL via monsoon rain

Tropical Storm "Kabayan" stayed way out in the Pacific Ocean and maintained its north by northwest track to southern Japan, according to state weather forecasters. Storm signals were not raised but heavy monsoon rains are expected over much of the country, especially Luzon and the Visayas. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said "Kabayan" is too far to directly affect any part of the country, but it is enhancing the rain-laden southwest monsoon. Ipo Dam in Bulacan filled up with rainwater Friday and reached spilling level. Two water release gates were opened. Managers at the dam clarified that the water from Ipo flows into the Angat River and not into other rivers in the province. The next PAGASA bulletin will be issued late Saturday morning. - ER/JVP, GMA News
