NDRRMC: 'Juaning' death toll now 50; governor's mom listed as fatality

(Updated 9 a.m.) The death toll from tropical storm “Juaning" (Nock-Ten) rose to 50 as of early Saturday, with the late mother of Albay Gov. Jose Salceda officially listed as a fatality. In its 8 a.m. Saturday update, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) also said the damage to property had risen to P1.466 billion. According to the NDRRMC, Mrs. Cielo Adelina Sarte-Salceda, 89, was listed among the latest fatalities as of Friday night. Her cause of death was listed as a “fall." Other recent fatalities in the NDRRMC’s list included:

• Edwin Lostrillo, 30, Bato, Camarines Sur (drowning)
• Ryan Sarlo Igle, 17, Polangui, Albay (drowning)
• Gregorio Romaroag, 91, Libon, Albay (cardiac arrest)
• Carlito Sigalot, 14, Libon, Albay (drowning)
• Jemel Dangcalan, 14, Buluang Bato, Camarines Sur
• Joaquin Quadro, 76, Bula, Camarines Sur
• Boy Gajo, Irosin, Sorsogon

An unidentified male was also recovered in Cogon village in Gubat, Sorsogon. The NDRRMC also said at least 25 remained missing, with the two latest identified as Antonio Accion, 37; and Fred Baldilovan, 39, both fishermen of Sulat, Eastern Samar. On the other hand, the NDRRMC said the crew of the sea vessel Nene Linda 3 were rescued in Western Visayas. The NDRRMC said Juaning had affected 192,246 families or 968,245 people in 857 villages in 95 towns and 12 cities in 20 provinces. Of these, 68,335 families or 341,331 people are still housed in 159 evacuation centers. Damage to property was estimated at P1,466,114,851.48 including P1,242,596,899.66 in infrastructure and P223,517,951.82 in agriculture.
