Phivolcs: Quakes rock Mindoro and Negros


At least two quakes measuring magnitude 3.5 rocked Mindoro Occidental in Southern Luzon and the Negros area in Western Visayas early Saturday. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the first quake was recorded in Mindoro at 6:06 a.m. and was tectonic in origin. In its bulletin, Phivolcs said the epicenter was at 15 km southeast of Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. Phivolcs said the quake was felt at Intensity II in Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro; and Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro. The second quake was recorded in Negros at 8:02 a.m., with the epicenter at 52 km southwest of Cauayan, Negros Occidental. It was felt at Intensity II in Sipalay City, Negros Occidental. No damage or aftershock was expected from the quakes, Phivolcs said. — LBG, GMA News
