Report: 110,958 Negros Occ. voters face removal from list


A total of 110,958 voters in Negros Occidental province face deactivation by the Commission on Elections for failing to vote in the 2007 and 2010 elections. Comelec provincial supervisor Jessie Suarez said voters who have been deactivated have until Oct. 31, 2012 to register, news site Visayan Daily Star reported. The registration process will be in time for the 2013 elections, the report added. Under Comelec Resolution No. 9149, those who face deactivation aside from failing to vote in two consecutive elections are:

  • Those sentenced by final judgment to suffer imprisonment of at a least year, such disability not having been removed by plenary pardon or amnesty;
  • Those adjudged by final judgment of having committed any crime involving disloyalty to the duly constituted government, such as rebellion, sedition, violation of the firearms laws, or any crime against national security unless restored to their full civil and political rights in accordance with law;
  • Those declared by competent authority to be insane or incompetent; those ordered excluded from the list of voters by the court and;
  • Those who have lost their Filipino citizenship; and those who transferred residence from within and outside the place of the voting origin of a voter. Suarez said 30,520 of the 110,958 facing deactivation are from Bacolod City. Other areas with voters facing deactivation include:
