Malacañang interested in 'Garci' press conference

Malacañang is interested to hear what former elections commissioner Virgilio Garcillano will say in a press conference he is supposedly set to give in Bukidnon Saturday afternoon. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said that while the Palace will withhold comment, it wants to know what the former Commission on Elections (Comelec) official has to say. “Let’s wait for what he will say before we make any reactions. He may surprise us, he may not... so we don’t know," she said on government-run dzRB radio. “Everybody seems to be looking for him and everybody seems to want to say hello to Garci," she added. Earlier, presidential political affairs adviser Ronald Llamas claimed he had received feelers from Garcillano, a key figure in the “Hello Garci" poll fraud scandal that broke out in 2005. The scandal involved wiretapped conversations (about rigging of 2004 poll results) between Garcillano and many personalities, including a female voice believed to be that of then President Gloria Arroyo. A separate report on Balitanghali said Garcillano met with some reporters earlier Saturday, before his 2 p.m. press conference. The report said he even greeted some of the media representatives who were waiting for his press conference. — LBG, GMA News
