NDRRMC: At least 2 dead in 'Kabayan' onslaught

At least two fish pond workers from Central Luzon were killed in the wake of tropical cyclone “Kabayan" (international code name: Muifa), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Saturday. In its 5 p.m. update, the NDRRMC identified the two fatalities as Liberto Yumol, 40, and Jason Reyes, 30, both from San Roque, Hagonoy. Both were fishpond workers aboard a motorized banca that capsized between Hagonoy, Bulacan and Pampanga Delta last Thursday, it said. Six other fishpond workers aboard the banca survived the incident. The NDRRMC also said one Ferdie Avendaño, 47, of San Jose village in Paombong town was injured after being hit by a tornado last Friday afternoon. At least 222 families or 1,058 people in seven villages in three towns and one city were affected by “Kabayan." Of these, 204 families or 967 people are still housed in six evacuation centers. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said all gates in Ipo Dam had been closed as of 4 p.m. Saturday, after the water level there went below the spilling level. It also said floodwaters in Meycauayan City and Marilao, Bocaue and Sta. Maria towns still ranged from one to three feet high. — JE, GMA News
