NDRRMC: 'Juaning' death toll now 52; damage over P1.7B


The death toll from tropical storm "Juaning" (Nock-Ten) went up to 52 Sunday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 8 a.m. update, the NDRRMC said the latest fatalities were from Marinduque and Leyte provinces. The recent fatalities included:

  • Alfonso Mariquit, 32, Dalahican, Lucena City (drowning)
  • Kurt Cupio, 5, Sta. Fe, Leyte (drowning)
At least 47 were injured while 27 remain missing, it added. The NDRRMC said Juaning affected 192,698 families or 969,612 people in 864 villages in 99 towns and 12 cities in 20 provinces. Damage to property was estimated at P1,734,870,414.19, including P1.242 billion in infrastructure and P492,273,514.53 in agriculture.
