PNoy to hear Mass for late mom Cory on Monday afternoon

President Benigno Aquino III will hear a Mass on Monday afternoon to mark the second death anniversary of his late mother, former President Corazon Aquino. Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said Aquino is scheduled to have meetings morning and early afternoon, after which he will hear Mass at the Manila Memorial Park. “At 4 p.m. the president will hear mass in commemoration of the second death anniversary of former Pres Corazon C. Aquino at the Manila Memorial Park," Valte said on government-run dzRB radio. But she said the Palace has yet to be advised on whether the Mass would be private or open to the public. In the meantime, she said those who want to mark Mrs. Aquino’s death anniversary can do so by offering prayers. “For those who want to commemorate the anniversary of the former pres we can do so by offering prayers for her for tomorrow," she said. On Saturday, Valte hinted that Aquino will take time in private to mark Mrs. Aquino's second death anniversary. Mrs. Aquino died after a battle with colon cancer on Aug. 1, 2009. The death of Mrs. Aquino, who was called an icon of democracy after toppling Ferdinand Marcos in 1986, had triggered a clamor for the younger Aquino, then a senator, to run in the May 2010 elections. — KBK, GMA News
