Michael Ray Aquino brought to Manila court for arraignment

Amid tight security, former police Senior Superintendent Michael Ray Aquino was brought to a Manila court early Monday to be arraigned for the Dacer-Corbito double murder case. National Bureau of Investigation agents secured Aquino as they brought him to the Manila Regional Trial Court at 8:07 a.m., radio dzBB's Carlo Mateo reported. Aquino was initially brought to the Manila court last July 1 but his arraignment was deferred to August 1. The dzBB report said Aquino was not handcuffed or made to wear a bulletproof vest during Monday's arraignment at the Manila court. He wore a blue polo shirt at Monday's court appearance, the report added. Meanwhile, Aquino's lawyer Napoleon Poblador said at least two motions on Aquino's detention are still pending. Aquino's lawyers had asked the court not to send Aquino to the Manila City Jail, citing potential threats to his life there. The dzbB report also quoted Aquino's lawyers as saying a motion is also pending to seek a reinvestigation of the Dacer-Corbito case as they contested there is probable cause against Aquino. — RSJ, GMA News
