'Lando' weakens into LPA; floods, landslides still loom over Luzon
One of two cyclones in Philippine territory weakened into a low-pressure area but flash floods and landslides remained a threat to western Luzon Monday afternoon, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. PAGASA said Tropical Depression Lando weakened into an LPA while Typhoon Kabayan (Muifa) continued to move away from Philippine territory. "The western section of Luzon will experience monsoon rains which may trigger flash floods and landslides. Visayas and the rest of Luzon will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms. Mindanao will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," PAGASA said in its 5 p.m. bulletin. PAGASA said moderate to strong winds blowing from the southwest will prevail over Luzon and the Visayas and coming from the south to southwest over the rest of the country. Meanwhile, coastal waters throughout the archipelago will be moderate to rough, it added. As of 2 p.m. Monday, PAGASA said Kabayan was estimated at 1,190 km east northeast of Aparri, Cagayan, with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. It said Kabayan is forecast to move north northwest at 13 kph. On the other hand, Lando was estimated at 110 km southwest of Sinait, Ilocos Sur. — RSJ, GMA News
