Talk 'N Text on course for Grand Slam

Talk `n Text has a foot in the door in its bid for a rare Grand Slam. The Tropang Texters finally made it to the Finals of the PBA Governors Cup, assuring the franchise of competing for the championship in the season-ending meet. By making it to the best-of-seven title series, coach Chot Reyes and his boys are just four wins away from winning their third title this year and a sweep of all championships at stake in the 36th season of Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league. Talk 'N Text formalized its entry into the Finals with a masterful 102-90 conquest of Barangay Ginebra Sunday. Although winning a Grand Slam and becoming only the fourth team to achieve the extraordinary feat is just within reach of the telecommunication franchise, Reyes admitted the team’s last few games perhaps will be the hardest for them. “The real hard work begins," said Reyes. “We’re happy to be in the Finals, but our job isn’t done. We achieved 50 percent of the job." As it stands now, only Ginebra, Alaska, Rain or Shine and Petron have the chance to deny Talk `N Text of its date with history. “Before the game, we talked about how these guys have come a long way. We had our heartaches and near misses," said Reyes. “Now we hold our destiny in our hands. We told ourselves let’s take advantage of this opportunity and not let it go. The guys responded unbelievably." Only three teams have completed a Grand Slam in the 36-year history of the PBA, namely: Crispa (1976 and 1983), San Miguel (1989) and Alaska (1996). Except in the early goings, the Kings never had a chance against the Tropang Texters, who torched their opponent behind a remarkable 15-of-34 shooting from beyond the arc. Talk 'N Text jumped off to an 18-point halftime lead (54-36) and never looked back. Import Scottie Reynolds sparked the Tropang Texters with 25 points, including six triples. -OMG, GMA News
