US Embassy in Manila launches Visa Reissuance Program

The United States Embassy in Manila has launched a Visa Reissuance Program (VRP) to speed up visa renewals for Philippine visa applicants who have multiple entry visas to the US valid for five years or longer. Under the new program, a Philippine citizen with a valid US tourist visa (B1/B2) can apply for reissuance within 12 months of the visa's expiration date. The embassy said applicants will be given a priority appointment date when they will be asked to:

  • submit a valid passport and application confirmation page, and
  • have their fingerprints digitally scanned. An interview with a consular officer will no longer be needed in most cases, the embassy said. Applicants can expect to receive their passports containing a new US visa within a week after applying. The cost of a US visa is still $140 and there is no additional cost for VRP appointments, the embassy said. For more details on the VRP, the embassy asks the public to visit its website or call (02) 982-5555 anytime from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday to Friday. Qualifications The US Embassy said, to qualify for the VRP, applicants must be able to answer "yes" to all of the following: 1. I am a Philippines passport holder. 2. I have previously been issued, in Manila, a full-validity visa (a visa good for five or ten years). 3. My visa is still valid... or it has expired within the last twelve months. 4. I have in my possession all of my passports covering the entire period of time since I received that full-validity visa. 5. I have not been refused a U.S. visa in the last twelve months. 6. My visa is not annotated "clearance received". 7. I have not ever stayed in the U.S. longer than 6 months (even if the Department of Homeland Security approved the extension of stay). 8. I have not ever been arrested or convicted for any offense or crime, even if subject of a pardon. 9. I can provide the visa control number from my visa (located in the upper right hand corner of the visa). Those who have answered yes to all of the questions above are asked to go online or contact the call center to schedule the VRP appointment. - VVP, GMA News
