DepEd: Regular classes resume in NCR

Regular classes resumed in Metro Manila Wednesday morning, the Department of Education (DepEd) said. The DepEd said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) predicted only half the volume of Tuesday's rain for Wednesday in the Metropolis. "Regular classes resume today, August 3. PAGASA predicts the amount of rainfall today will only be half of yesterday's volume," it said in its Twitter account. On Tuesday, the DepEd suspended classes in Metro Manila after learning from PAGASA there may be heavy rain especially in the morning. For its part, PAGASA said it expected only up to 10 mm of rain between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. over Metro Manila on Wednesday. On its Twitter account, PAGASA said rainfall "intensity may vary within the forecast time of rainfall occurrence. Ten millimeter/hr is the expected maximum... less than yesterday's." The DepEd clarified that its superintendents and principals, as well as local government units, "[may] suspend classes if the situation in [their areas] warrants it." "Parents can decide whether to send their children to school or not," the DepEd added. In Central Luzon, the DepEd also said there are regular classes "except for the following still flooded schools in Pampanga: Macabebe West District - San Esteban Elementary School, Consuelo ES, Sta.Maria ES, San Rafael ES, Sto Nino ES, Dalayap, Dalan, Baliti ES, Castuli, Sta Lutgarda, SanJuan, Lolu Sapang Malalam, and Sitio Mindanao. In Macabebe East District – Caduag Tete ES, San Isidro ES, SanGabriel, San Roque, Sta.Rita Telacsan, Masantol San Isidro ES and Sapang Kawayan ES." — with a report by Earl Victor Rosero/LBG, GMA News
