NDRRMC: 'Kabayan' death toll rises to 5

The death toll from Typhoon Kabayan (Muifa) rose to five early Wednesday, with the latest fatality from Quezon City, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said. In its 6 a.m. update, the NDRRMC described the fatality as a 50-year-old female who drowned and whose body was recovered in Talayan Creek in Quezon City. On the other hand, the NDRRMC also said Kabayan triggered a landslide that buried a house in Sitio Pagria in Mayamot village in Antipolo City. "All the family members are safe but the house was partially damaged," it said. The NDRRMC said Kabayan had affected at least 1,725 families or 8,418 people in 20 villages in six towns and five cities in four provinces in Central and Southern Luzon and Metro Manila. At least eight houses were damaged, including the one buried by a landslide in Antipolo City, it added. Damage to property was estimated at P2.5 million, including P500,000 in Bohol and P2 million at the Tablas Circumferential Road in Alcantara, Romblon. — RSJ, GMA News
