NDRRMC: Death toll from 'Juaning' rises to 67


The death toll from Tropical Cyclone Juaning (Nock-Ten) rose to 67 Wednesday morning, with the latest fatality from Apayao province in Northern Luzon. In its 6 a.m. update, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council also said 53 were injured and 15 remain missing. The NDRRMC identified the latest fatality as Reggie Alunday, 18, of Sakpil town in Apayao. It said he died of drowning. Also, the NDRRMC said the damage to property went up to P2.185 billion. Of the P2,184,812,817.45 in damages, P1,557,555,849.66 was recorded as damage to infrastructure, and P627,256,967.79 to agriculture. Some 7,069 houses were destroyed while 9,905 were damaged. The NDRRMC said Juaning affected at least 195,206 families or 981,201 people in 983 villages in 103 towns and 12 cities in 21 provinces. Meanwhile, the NDRRMC said that of the crew of the fishing vessel FB Hope Christie, 11 were confirmed dead while eight remained missing, while 13 had been rescued. In an interview with News To Go Wednesday, NDRRMC executive director Benito Ramos said the combined death toll due to cyclones Juaning and Kabayan is now at 72. — LBG, GMA News
