MMDA: Number coding suspended starting at noon
Amid inclement weather conditions and predictions of heavy rain, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority will suspend the number coding scheme starting noon. On Wednesday, MMDA's Vanessa Vasquez said MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino ordered that the number coding scheme be suspended except in Makati and Las Piñas Cities. "Starting 12, suspended ang number coding except Makati and Las Piñas (Starting noon, the number coding is suspended in Makati and Las Piñas cities)," Vasquez said in an interview on dzBB radio. This means vehicles with plate numbers ending in 5 and 6 will no longer be barred from major thoroughfares in Metro Manila for the day. Under the number coding scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 5 and 6 would be barred from major streets from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Earlier, the Department of Education on Wednesday suspended afternoon classes in Metro Manila after the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration had predicted "moderate to heavy rainfall" for the day. "Afternoon classes in NCR is suspended. Latest report from PAGASA predicts moderate to heavy rainfalls throughout the day," it said. The DepEd had announced classes in Metro Manila would resume on Wednesday, a day after it suspended classes in the NCR due to predictions of heavy rain. — RSJ, GMA News
