Glitch in signal system forces limited MRT ops

A glitch in the signaling system forced the Metro Rail Transit (MRT-3) to limit its operations between Taft Avenue in Pasay City and Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City before noon Thursday. Light Rail Transit Authority spokesman Hernando Cabrera said they have yet to get a timetable on when MRT operations will get back to normal. "Sarado muna from North Avenue hanggang Shaw. Ang gumagana muna Shaw to Taft and back (We had to temporarily shut down operations between North Avenue in Quezon City to Shaw Boulevard. The MRT is working only between Shaw and Taft Avenue for now)," Cabrera said in an interview on dzBB radio at 11 a.m. Citing initial reports reaching him, he said the signaling system for the southbound part of MRT suffered a malfunction. The system was supposed to be automatic, he said. "Ito ang automatic system na parang traffic light yan. Nasira yan, apparently may problema," Cabrera said. It was the latest glitch to hit the MRT, which links North Avenue in Quezon City to Taft Avenue in Pasay City. — RSJ, GMA News
