Pinoy youths to visit parishes in Spain, Portugal


World Youth Day (WYD) delegates from the Philippines and other countries will visit parishes in Spain and Portugal before WYD begins on August 16. The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said Thursday the delegates will stay at Coria-Caceres diocese from August 11 to 15. "The Philippine delegation is assigned to spend days in the Diocese of Coria-Caceres to experience Spain through various activities and friendship with the young people there," the CBCP said in an article posted on its news site. Delegates from other countries like the United States, France, Germany and Australia will have the days in the diocese in Coria-Caceres as well, the CBCP said. The CBCP cited the following reasons for celebrating the days in the diocese:

  • To have a personal encounter with Christ, especially in the sacraments of the Eucharist and Reconciliation (confession);
  • To experience the universality of the Catholic Church as communion, and the Pope’s spiritual paternity; and
  • To rediscover one’s baptismal vocation to holiness, being called to be active members of the Church, responsible for the new Evangelization of the contemporary world. Prayer and fellowship According to the CBCP, from August 11 to 15, WYD delegates will take part in the following activities in the Coria-Caceres diocese:
  • celebration of the Holy Eucharist
  • youth night
  • cultural activities, and
  • recreation activities/ The delegates will also visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Portugal for a Marian pilgrimage. On the fourth day, pilgrims will spend time with their foster families and attend church service in the local community or churches. Hon. D. Bishop Francisco Cerro de Coria-Caceres will celebrate a Mass on August 15, the last day of the delegates’ stay in the diocese before they go to Madrid for the WYD main events from August 16 to 21. - VVP, GMA News
