Weather: Monsoon rain to last until weekend

Typhoon Kabayan (Muifa) may have exited Philippine territory, but rain from the southwest monsoon remains a threat to parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, during the weekend. Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration forecaster Rene Paciente said the monsoon will bring rains to Central and Southern Luzon, Central Visayas and Mindanao. "Patuloy ang ulan hanggang Linggo. Bukas inaasahan natin mas malakas ang pag-ulan, sa Metro Manila, light to moderate. Sa Linggo sa Northern at Central Luzon naman ang maulan (We can expect rain to continue until at least Sunday. On Saturday we expect more rain in Metro Manila, although it will be light to moderate. On Sunday, we expect rain in Northern and Central Luzon)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. He advised travelers to suspend travel plans especially to the north, if possible. Earlier, PAGASA said Kabayan, which left at least eight people dead, had exited Philippine territory and is heading for Taiwan. In the meantime, Paciente said they continue to monitor a low-pressure area approaching Philippine territory. Should the LPA become a cyclone in Philippine territory, it will be codenamed "Mina." "Patuloy tayo nagbabantay sa labas ng Philippine area of responsibility, sa silangan (We continue to monitor weather disturbances especially to the east of the Philippine area of responsibility)," he said. — RSJ, GMA News
