Taiwan telecom launches 3D map service

Mobile phone users in Taiwan can now get a 3-D view of map locations after a telecom operator there launched its "Show Taiwan" service. "Show Taiwan" claims to have 3D models of more than five million buildings, Taiwan's Central News Agency (CNA) reported. It quoted Chunghwa Telecom Co. as saying the service also allows users to get directions and calculate distances, aside from a "real" view of places. The report said the service lets users view maps from different angles and heights and in different modes, such as bird's-eye view, flying, car or pedestrian mode. It added it is working on real 360-degree panoramic views of scenic areas and 3D panoramic views of Taiwan's national parks. Users can likewise click on the map to find information about restaurants, shopping destinations, travel, accommodation, transport and entertainment. They can also get real-time information about the weather and traffic conditions, the CNA report said. — TJD, GMA News
