'Balik Pinay' program awaits OFWs returning to Eastern Visayas

Philippine labor officials in Eastern Visayas reassured female overseas Filipino workers returning to the country of the “Balik Pinay" program that will help them develop business and livelihood skills. The regional office of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) have readied a starter kit for the program, the Philippine Information Agency reported. OWWA officer-in-charge Evangelina Filamor added her office will coordinate with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) for accredited trainers to develop business and livelihood skills. According to the report, trainings included health and wellness such as reflexology, house repair such as plumbing and welding, and food processing. It said these will offer the Filipina choices of skills to put into good use. “Balik Pinay" is a joint initiative of OWWA and DOLE to help OFWs displaced by political conflicts in the Middle East and other countries hit by calamities. — JE, GMA News
