Phivolcs: Magnitude-3.9 aftershock rocks Negros Occ

A magnitude-3.9 aftershock rocked Negros Occidental early Saturday, with state seismologists saying it was one of at least 450 aftershocks of a magnitude-6.2 quake in the area last July. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) director Renato Solidum Jr. said further aftershocks are possible, although Saturday’s incident was not likely to cause damage. “Ito ay aftershock ng July 12 na mahigit 400 aftershock na at 59 ang naramdaman (It was one of the aftershocks of a magnitude-6.2 quake last July 12. There had been more than 400 aftershocks, about 59 of which were felt)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. “Patuloy ang pagkakaroon ng maliliit na lindol na minsan nararamdaman sa darating na mga araw," he added. An initial bulletin by Phivolcs said the tremor was recorded at 7:47 a.m., with the epicenter at 67 km southwest of Cauayan City in Negros Occidental. It was felt at Intensity III in Sipalay, Negros Occidental; and at Intensity II in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental. — LBG, GMA News
