Google Doodle honors comedienne Lucille Ball

To mark the 100th birth anniversary of comic genius Lucille Desiree Ball, search giant Google posted an interactive doodle resembling an old television set. Visitors to Google's home page (www.google.com) were greeted with an "old-timey TV" as a homage to her "comedic genius." "We’re incredibly happy to celebrate her birthday with a doodle to highlight her brilliant career as an actress and businesswoman. Through the old-timey TV live on the google.com homepage all day on August 6th, you can flip the six channels for a special Lucy broadcast," doodler Jennifer Hom said in a blog post. Hom said Ball's jokes are timeless, as shown in her television show "I Love Lucy" that premiered in 1957. Ball, born on Aug. 6, 1911, was one of the most popular and influential stars in the United States. She died on April 26, 1989 of a dissecting aortic aneurysm. "Lucy’s creativity, absurdity, and ever-changing facial expressions (especially when she was scarfing down candy, stomping on grapes or touting a new energy drink) have brought joy and laughter to generations of viewers," Hom added. The interactive doodle's seven "stations" feature classic clips from Ball's comedy show "I Love Lucy." "Some of the clips featured in the doodle include the infamous chocolate factory and grape stomping scenes," said MyFox8. — TJD, GMA News
