Dodie Boy Jr outclasses Thai foe to remain undefeated

Rising super bantamweight prospect Dodie Boy Peñalosa Jr. showed that he has too much power against Kong Kiatpracha Gym as he totally outclassed his Thai foe in their eight-round non-title fight Saturday night at the Mandaue City Sports and Cutural Complex in Mandaue City, Cebu. Peñalosa Jr., the son of two-division world champion Dodie Sr., needed only three rounds to dispose of Kiatpracha, who failed to stop the Filipino southpaw’s unrelenting attack. He now improved his ring record to 6-0 all by way of knockout. The third-generation fighter from Cebu scored a technical knockout win against Kiatpracha with the referee stopping the fight in the 2:16-mark of the third round after the Thai was knocked down for the third straight time. Both fighters exchanged body shots in the early goings of the third round but Peñalosa pressed on with his attack to knock down Kiatpracha twice. He managed to push the Thai against the ropes where he knocked down Kiatpracha for the third time forcing the referee to stop the bout. Kiatpracha was defensive-minded right from the start as the Thai kept his distance from his opponent, completely aware of Peñalosa’s patented left hook. The Thai suffered his ninth loss (fifth by KO) against five wins. Randy Petalcurin won the Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) junior flyweight crown after Michael Rodriguez was disqualified for an illegal blow in their scheduled 12-round title bout. Rodriguez was disqualified after hitting Petalcurin when the Dagohoy, Bohol native was already going down in the 1:39-mark of the eighth round. In other undercard matches, Jimrex Jaca won by technical knockout over Philip Jun Demecillo while comebacking Eden Sonsona defeated Eman Labanza by unanimous decision. Marvin Tampus, fighting out of the Jaro boxing stable, also defeated Jestoni Pepito by UD while Anthony Sabalde scored a first-round KO victory opposite Christian Saga. Renren Tesorio and Jaime Bermiso’s six-round bout ended in a technical draw. Watch the blow by blow action of Laban ng Lahi: Dugong Kampeon on GMA-7 on Sunday, August 7, at 10:10am." – JVP, GMA News
