‘Peace and Prosperity Roads’ eyed to end Samar insurgency


As part of the government’s efforts to end insurgency, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will start soon the construction of “Peace and Prosperity Roads" in Samar. The DPWH said its Northern Samar 1st District Engineering Office has already conducted preliminary surveys in the areas where the “Peace and Prosperity Roads" will be built. In a news release, the DPWH said the new roads “will soon start this year to arrest insurgency problem in Samar." The Peace and Prosperity Roads include:

  • The 35-kilometer (km) San Isidro-Lope de Vega Road
  • The 9.8-km Bangkerohan-Galutan-Imelda-Hinatad-Mckinley Road
  • The 20-km Trujillo-Duran-Gemaraganan Road in Northern Samar
  • The 12.1-km Polangi-Gebulwangan-Quezon-Trangue-Mabini Road
  • The 13.5-km Colab-og–Lugib–Buenasuerte–Pasabuena–Maxvilla Road The new all-weather gravel roads will provide Samar Island residents better access to centers of trade and commerce, the DPWH said. The DPWH said it is also working with other agencies to facilitate employment in the project area. Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment has adopted a community-based employment program of hiring unskilled and skilled workers from the local community where the projects are located. - VVP, GMA News
